Athletes and Federations back the #TriMixedRelays bid

As you probably already know, ITU is trying to get the Mixed Relays included on the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020. To help with the promotion of this event, which is a role model within the sports community in terms of gender balance, and also a great spectacle for athletes and spectators, ITU has launch a campaign on social media called the Virtual Relay.
We want the whole Triathlon Family, from triathletes to National Federations, organisers and stakeholders, to showcase their support for the event, so if you want to join the campaign, go ahead and go to your social media channels using the hashtag #TriMixedRelays. And make sure you tag some more people, to keep the ball rolling.
ITU President’s Corner
In April I had the great honor to be appointed to four of the IOC Commissions. During the next year, I will serve on the Women and Sport, Olympic Solidarity, Public Affairs and Social Development Through Sport and Evaluation for the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad Commissions, while ITU Honorary Member Dr. Sarah Springman will serve on the IOC Sustainability and Legacy Commission.

I am particularly pleased by the fact that 38% of the places of the 26 IOC Commissions are now held by women. The new make-up of the IOC Commissions, which will provide assistance to the IOC and the Olympic Games Organising Committees, is also marked by the inclusion of young men and women who represent a new generation and will be the sports leaders of tomorrow. Also in April, the ITU Executive Board met in Seoul, South Korea to address many important topics at their first meeting after the 29th Congress held in Spain in December 2016.

During two fruitful days of meetings, the Board, presided by ITU’s President Marisol Casado, agreed on launching the bidding process for cities interested in hosting the 2018 World Triathlon Series and World Cup events. The Board also analyzed the competition structure within ITU and explored the possible improvements, changes and adaptations. The Board members also had the chance to review the documents sent to the IOC to formally bid for Mixed Relay to be included on the Olympic Programme Tokyo 2020.  Read more
